First Hyatt-branded hotel planned for Iraq

1Hyatt Hotels Corp.?plans to open a Hyatt Regency hotel in the Kurdistan region of Iraq, its first Hyatt-branded hotel in the country.

Chicago-based?Hyatt Hotels?(NYSE: H) said the 210-guestroom hotel, Hyatt Regency Sulaymaniyah, is expected to open in 2017.

Hyatt also said it has entered into a management agreement with?Claremont Group?LLC, a New York-based real estate development company.

?Bringing the Hyatt brand to Iraq is one of the most exciting projects we have in development,??Peter Norman, senior vice president of real estate and development, for Hyatt Hotels & Resorts in Europe, Africa and the Middle East, said in a statement. ?Kurdistan is a stable and prosperous area of Iraq, and as a result, the economy is growing and demand for lodging accommodations is rising.?

Norman said Hyatt Regency Sulaymaniyah will offer a full range of services, amenities and dining options for both business and leisure travelers. The hotel will feature an all-day dining restaurant, more than 17,500 square feet of meeting and event space, a fitness center, a five-treatment room spa and three pools.
