HK hotel industry appeals for government action

Hong Kong?s hotel industry is urging the government to target new sources of tourists to save the slumping tourism and hospitality industry, the South China Morning Post reported.
Michael Li Hon-shing, executive director of the Federation of Hong Kong Hotel Owners, said the tourism industry is ?at a crossroads? as mainland Chinese visitors, which make up 80 percent of total arrivals, lost interest in the city. ?We should not put all our eggs into one basket,? he said.
Besides drawing overseas tourists to the city to boost retail sales and hotel occupancy, Li suggested the government target business travellers and exhibitors, and even turn the city into an ?examination hub?.
