HK hotel staff fear for their jobs

About a third of Hong Kong hotel staff fear they may lose their jobs and about 6 percent feel certain they will be sacked as a result of a four percentage point drop in average occupancy last year.
The Hotel, Food and Beverage Employees Association said 39.4 percent of 643 members that it polled last month expressed concerns that the local hotel industry will decline further in the coming months. Just 11 percent were optimistic. Average hotel occupancy last year fell to 86 percent from 90 percent a year earlier.
The group said its survey showed that 26.4 percent of hotel workers believe their jobs are safe, but 30.1 percent think there is a chance they may lose their jobs.
