Hotel security a global priority

Las Vegas – 3 October 2017 – 
A report from the Associated Press says that, across the globe, risks of terrorism and other violence have made tight security at hotels and resorts routine.

It says that’s even the case in countries where strict gun control laws might help prevent the kind of shooting attack that occurred Sunday night in Las Vegas.

It points out that, in many cities, luxury hotel entrances open straight into shopping malls. Hotel lobbies often serve as a refuge from noisy, chaotic city streets, and are generally easily accessible.

But increasingly, hotel operators are deploying armed guards, vehicle barricades, x-ray machines and other measures to reduce risks.

It says hotel and resort operators have stepped up security after attacks over the years in the Philippines, Indonesia and India. One hotel in New Delhi has begun using facial recognition scanners.
