Shantha De Silva, Director of Operations, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines, who accepted the award on behalf of IHG said: ?We are thrilled to be Asia?s Leading Business Hotel Brand and also to have received so many other awards across categories. The recognition from our guests and customers reflect the people and the brand promise that these properties deliver, and we are very proud of this achievement. A big thanks to WTA for the recognition.?

The WTA also honoured the award?s host venue, InterContinental Singapore as Asia?s Leading Meetings & Conference Hotel. IHG also recorded notable country-specific wins in categories such as the Leading Hotel in Australia, Vietnam, Japan, South Korea, Nepal and Kazakhstan.

The awards come on the back of the group?s recent success at the 2012 Business Traveller Asia Pacific Awards, which were held in Hong Kong. This saw Holiday Inn pick up the Best Mid-Market Hotel Brand for the 12th consecutive year, and InterContinental being named Best Business Hotel Brand for the third year running.

Earlier this month, InterContinental Hotels & Resorts also picked up Europe?s Leading Hotel Brand at the WTA Gala Ceremony in Europe.

The WTA were launched in 1993 to acknowledge excellence in the travel and tourism industry and are now in their 19th year. Dubbed the ?travel Oscars? by The Wall Street Journal, the awards are decided and based on votes made by the public and travel professionals worldwide.

The WTA?s Asia, Australasia & Indian Ocean Ceremony 2012 that took place last night was held for the first time in Singapore in partnership with TravelRave ? Asia?s most influential travel trade festival. It was the final regional leg of the WTA?s grand tour. The winners of each leg will go head-to-head at the WTA?s Grand Final, set to take place in New Delhi, India on 12 December 2012.

Results are based on votes from 167,000 travel agencies, industry professionals and the public from more than 160 countries.
