Lonely Planet has named Adelaide and The Kimberley as two of the world?s top destinations for next year in LONELY PLANET?S BEST IN TRAVEL 2014, published 29 October 2013.

This is Lonely Planet?s ninth eagerly-awaited annual collection of the best places to go and things to do around the world for the year ahead.

Ranked ninth on the book?s list of Top 10 Cities 2014, Adelaide is ?effortlessly chic ? and like a perfectly cellared red, it?s ready to be uncorked and sampled,? Lonely Planet says. Other cities to make the list are Paris (1), Trinidad (2), Cape Town (3), Riga (4), Zurich (5), Shanghai (6), Vancouver (7), Chicago (8) and Auckland (10).

The Kimberley is second on the list of Top 10 Regions 2014. Lonely Planet says, ?It?s one of the most sparsely populated regions on the planet and one of the most beautiful, carved by giant gorges, dimpled with deep, cool pools, and home to a coastline that could make Australian eastcoasters weep.? Sikkim (1), Yorkshire (3), Hokuriku (4), Texas (5), Victoria Falls (6), Mallorca (7), West Coast NZ (8), Hunan (9) and Ha?apai (10) complete the list.

This new edition of BEST IN TRAVEL also reveals why Brazil (1), Antarctica (2), Scotland (3), Sweden (4), Malawi (5), Mexico (6), Seychelles (7), Belgium (8), Macedonia (9) and Malaysia (10) have been selected as the Top 10 Countries for next year.

BEST IN TRAVEL?s recommendations are drawn from hundreds of ideas submitted by Lonely Planet?s staff, authors and community of travellers, bloggers and tweeters. Their suggestions are then refined by a panel of in-house travel experts, based on scores for topicality, excitement, and that special x-factor. Lonely Planet?s focus is on the merits of each destination and the unique experiences they offer travellers.
