Marriott International named a 2017 top 10 company for executive women

Bethesda, Maryland – 2 March 2017 –
Marriott International has been named one of the 2017 NAFE Top Companies for Executive Women by the National Association for Female Executives (NAFE). NAFE recognizes American corporations where women have significant clout to make the decisions that affect their company’s future and its bottom line. The NAFE top 60 companies are featured in the February/March issue of Working Mother magazine.

“The NAFE Top 60 Companies for Executive Women are the leaders in the U.S. that have moved women into top executive positions and created a culture where talented women are nurtured, promoted and thrive,” says Betty Spence, President of NAFE. “We are very proud to honor their contributions to the advancement of women in the workplace.”

Marriott created the Emerging Leader Program in 2013 to increase the number of women and minorities in senior management and leadership roles. Since the beginning of the program, women have comprised more than 50 percent of those nominated, and also more than 50 percent of all promotions and job changes. Marriott continues to develop innovative programs aimed at helping the company’s associates reach their professional goals, including career mentoring and planning.

From the company’s headquarters to Marriott’s properties around the world, women hold senior leadership positions, making influential decisions that impact the company. Marriott currently has twelve executive officers and four board members who are women. In 2016, Marriott appointed its first female Chief Financial Officer, Leeny Oberg, who began her career at Marriott in 1999.
